PATHWAY, Staff, Office, & Committee News
PATHWAY News
This month marked a significant milestone in PATHWAY: two of the participants graduated from the first phase of the program and have moved into the second phase. While the first phase of PATHWAY focuses on establishing strong roots and a reliable foundation, understanding where and what resources exist and strengthening ties to existing support systems, the second phase encourages growth and stretching into new challenges and goals for each participant. Both Federal Public Defender Colin Fieman and Acting United States Attorney Teal Miller attended, and the participants were celebrated with kudos, certificates, and even some sweet treats.
Staff News

Our office had it's annual Tacoma Rainiers game outing!

Office News
This month, our office had the pleasure of welcoming local Seattle artist Myron Curry to our space, to create a mural honoring the necessary and vital work performed by the Federal Public Defender’s Office. Myron and staff worked together to develop a design honoring all we do for our clients and the Western District of Washington.
Myron did an amazing job, and we are thrilled to have him represent our work. In Myron’s own words: “The mural I created for the Federal Public Defender’s Office represents resilience, justice, and the power of community. For me, it was not just about painting walls, but about honoring those who fight for fairness, amplifying voices that are too often unheard, and transforming the space into a beacon of hope and dignity.”
Please check out Myron’s website to learn more about his work.

Committee News
Our office’s Equity and Inclusion Committee hosted our third annual brunch for FPD staff at Marination Ma Kai at Alki Beach on August 17, 2025. It was a relaxing time to congregate and enjoy the best the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Some opted to arrive via the West Seattle water taxi, including two of our beloved seafaring pooches. As part of the mission of the E&I Committee to provide all people with respect, equitable treatment, inclusion, and belonging, we organize these events to show our support for each other and our work. The Committee creates opportunities and spaces for mindful reflection of the impact of racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, and many other forms of bias that affect our clients, our staff, and our work in the criminal legal system. We look forward to more gatherings!
