Client, Office, Staff, & Intern News!

Client News:

First Step Act Win!

Judge Evanson granted AP’s petition for writ of habeas corpus. We argued on Mr. P’s behalf that the Bureau of Prisons’ policy denying earned time credits to people who have not yet arrived at their “designated facility” was inconsistent with the more generous language of the First Step Act. Judge Evanson agreed, and Mr. P is thrilled. Wonderful work Team FPD!

Office News:

FPD WAW Selected as a Host Office for the Diversity Fellowship Program 2024!

We are excited to announce that our office has been selected as a 2024 host office for the U.S. Court’s Defender Services Diversity Fellowship Program! The goal of the program is to enhance the quality of representation provided under the Criminal Justice Act by increasing the number of diverse attorneys who provide representation to CJA clients. The fellowship creates a pathway for new or recent law school graduates to join 12 federal defender organizations with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion where they will receive extensive training, mentoring and litigation experience. Once the fellows are selected and matched with host offices, they will begin their two-year fellowships in September, 2024. More information about the program is available here.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

Our officed ventured out together to attend the Mariners v Dodgers game. Sadly, the Mariners were no match for the first place NL West, Dodgers.  We still had a great time!

Some of us were lucky to be able to see the documentary 26.2 to Life at SIFF when it played here two weekends ago. It really is a must see, and we encourage more folks to see it!
