Community News:

The FPD held its annual holiday party at our Seattle office this year. It was attended by staff from both our Tacoma and Seattle offices, as well as members of our CJA panel, alumni, former interns and friends of our office. A huge thank you to all who helped organize the festivities. The food was outstanding, the décor was inviting and we brought back the always fun, white elephant gift exchange!  Thank you to all who contributed to its success and we look forward to seeing you next year!

Staff News:

Federal Public Defender hires Social Worker Daniel Potter-Engelskirger

Daniel joined the Federal Public Defender in December and will serve as the social worker in both our Seattle and Tacoma offices. Most recently, Daniel worked as a Clinical Care Manager at the Bailey- Boushay House, an adult day health program where he helped patients living with HIV navigate many of the same obstacles our clients face—physical and mental health, substance use, housing, employment, and public benefits. His work experience primarily lies in healthcare, but he has also enjoyed providing counseling and facilitating youth development groups in public schools in the SF Bay Area. Daniel is especially committed to advocating for the LGBTQ and Latinx communities and is currently serving on the board of the local non-profit Entre Hermanos. He is also fluent in Spanish and is a proud graduate of the University of California (Go Bears!). Daniel is an excellent addition to our team and we are very fortunate to have him as our colleague. Welcome Dan!
